So you want to be an Amazon
Amazon Heritage Profile
Amazons are hard to miss with their brilliant purple cloaks, occasional missing breasts and oddly militaristic bearing. The word for family is “Skyle”, the same word for battalion. They carry crescent shaped shields and have a garrote called a “xaella” in their hair. They are fond of javelins and bows.
Amazons are often embarrassed by the everyday diminishment of Humans. They can be seen to avert their eyes so as not to bear witness to someone “lowering” themselves into conventional society. Freedom is what they are all about and they fight to the death for it. Marriage is a ridiculous concept for them as is rearing your own children. Amazons don’t haggle, don’t keep servants to chastise, and certainly don’t coddle. However, they are quick and generous with affection.
They form “Troika” or groups of three and these small groups hold special powers when operating together on a battlefield. Any person caught within a Troika will experience extra damage from the back until they can manage to break out of the Troika. A Troika can also provide a small healing boon out of combat.
The original Amazons were women and only tolerated the presence of men for procreation purposes, often leaving behind children to be raised by the men until the girls became old enough to live with the Amazons. Over time, Amazons began to take the boy children with them as well and raise them into their society. Amazons are more well known for a nomadic lifestyle these days than for being only female.
Amazons are almost exclusively followers of Ares. Although they may visit other temples or altars occasionally, particularly Artemis.
It is unlikely that an Amazon would join a town guard or serve as a temple curator in a town. However, they may hire themselves out as caravan escorts or provide a contingent for a battle under their own leadership. Unless they are infirm in some way, they try to keep themselves always ready to travel on.
Heritage Abilities
These are the abilities that make Amazons unique. You get them at the start of the game. It is up to you to role play them successfully.
The Troika acts as passive, active and role play heritage bonuses. A Troika requires 3 bonded Amazons in a triangle formation. While in the formation, if you strike an opponent you deal an extra 2 pts flanking damage. Out of combat, Troika formations gain an immediate 3 pts of health and 3 pts every 30 seconds thereafter. Troika intuition gives you a sense regarding your partners in the Troika whether they be in trouble in this plane or another. You can track them down more easily and generally have a sense of their disposition.
Amazon Example Archetypes
Tactician
Amazons are known for their battle prowess and ability to command under difficult circumstances. The leaders of the Amazons train as Tacticians to grant special bonuses to those under their command.
See Tactician for details.
Ranged
Amazons are known to favor bows and javelins allowing them to soften an enemy up before engaging in melee.
Defensive
Troikas are difficult to overcome because they have increased damage as well as healing when rotated off the line. A clever Troika can use this to their advantage in many ways.
