Logician

The ‘Vow of Reason’ is the defining characteristic of the Logician. This Vow is taken at the beginning of their path. Logicians wield the power of primordial forces by virtue of their divine spark. They do not need the gods to tap the ancient powers of the cosmos, instead, they use the power of their iron will to shape the world according to logic and reason. The gods cannot obstruct their connection to the depths of human potential. The logician can achieve many of the same effects as the Magi by their will alone. There is a certain enmity between the Logicians and the Magi primarily due to the way they conceive of primordial forces and Magic respectively. The logicians refer to ‘mana’ as Will or Willpower. One of the most powerful tools in the Logicians arsenal is the ability to create a place ‘safe’ from the direct influence of the gods. These areas are called a Forum and protect those within from direct attacks from the gods and their Herolds.

Architect

While not strictly a Logician skill line, the necessity to build Forums in a way that confounds the Gods has given Logicians and Philosophers the practice of designing and building on a large scale.

In game this means that an Architect could come in and examine ruins, possibly rebuild ruins or get civic structures functioning again such as the Kariz.

Philosopher

The term Philosopher is often used interchangeably with Logician. There are some subtle differences:

Philosophers are found primarily in town or at the local Forum. If there is no Forum, a Philosopher will see an opportunity and try to build one. Philosophers take their duties to the Forum seriously- even if they take nothing else seriously. They are the ones most likely charged with the maintenance of the Forum to keep it free from the undue influence of the Gods.

A Logician is sort of an advanced Philosopher. They can be found on battlefields, or on adventures. They usually have a home Forum that they work out of, and they can also perform the maintenance rites.

Resurrectionist

A Resurrectionist is a hybrid of a Physician and a Logician. They are the only PC capable of bringing someone back from the dead (generally speaking, obviously in a game with Gods anything can happen).

A Resurrectionist is the result of narrowly focusing ones resources to become Physicians and Logicians. A Resurrectionist does not rely on the Gods, but instead relies on Human capabilities. Through human ingenuity, the Resurrectionist has found a way to travel to Hades and retrieve a recently departed soul. The journey both to and from Hades is fraught with peril and it is not undertaken lightly. A Resurrectionist must have a mortar and pestle to prepare the trance potion, as well as a place to rest their body comfortably and safely (OOG, they need a fake body) when their soul descends to Hades.

To begin with, an item belonging to the deceased or a likeness must be contemplated. A drug must be prepared, freshly, and taken to enter into a trance. The “animus” of the Resurrectionist leaves the body and travels to Hades. At this time, only rumors and conjecture tell the rest of the story. But apparently, upon waking from the trance, a successful resurrection may have occurred and life often returns to the deceased. The success of these endeavors seems to be strongly tied to the timeliness of a Resurrectionist’s intervention.

The potion for a Resurrection Trance is as follows:

2 Buckthorn, 2 Madder, 2 Bone Eating Vulture feathers, 2 Turmeric, 2 Pomegranate

Chances of success improve if nothing disturbs the Resurrectionist’s body. If they should be killed while in the trance, they will be stuck in Hades. If they should die in Hades…well…we just don’t know.

Accomplished Resurrectionists may design a portable Forum, for use on the battlefield. The efficacy of this particular tool is untested.

Logicain Specific Skills

Logician

The Logician skill represents the beginning of the pathway of the Logician Profession. It means you are no longer able to call on the gods for assistance or able to spend god points (GP). Logicians are very unpopular with the gods and in particular Hades. There are some perks to this trade-off that include access to the Logician specific skills and a heightened sense of Reason.

Reason: Whether by your stubborn nature or superior intellect you gain the ability to resist the illogical, absurd, and confounding. Twice per day whenever you would be affected by a mind altering state you shrug it off. Call out “Resist”.
